How great do you look in jeans? Turn around. Uh-huh. Kami Gray looks perfect in hers, and she insists she went through a period in her life when she wore jeans six sizes bigger than the denim she was dressed in tonight.
Kami was talking about The Denim Diet to a group called The Link For Women in Portland, Oregon. The founder, Cindy Tortorici, commanded Kami to turn her butt to us, so, yes, we checked her out. Kami walks her talk.
She’s got a success story, and has a simple way of telling it. (Here’s my earlier book review) She likes the idea of accidental exercise — the kind you get when you park your car as far away as possible from the grocery store and hoof it. As I drank my 12-ounce glass of Diet Coke, she told us that diet soda can influence insulin levels to increase…which leads to fat storage. Yikes.
I’m a size four, but on the tight end — which means I’ve been especially open lately to how to drop a few pounds and firm up again. I also have had Diabetes Type Two for about three years — a very expensive disease, especially when you don’t have health insurance. It costs a dollar a stick to test my blood sugar, and I have to test five times each day. Then there’s the insulin and other meds — add a couple hundred bucks a month. I know the answer to a healthy body and a healthy budget is diet — and there’s Kami up there, slim and blond and beautiful, talking about a low-glycemic diet. All I have to do, is follow her instructions. My rebellious nature is losing its grip on me, as I weigh the benefits.
One more — Kami says she’ll take me jean-shopping in a couple of weeks. Yeah, that’s incentive.
