I’ve consumed their words over the years, why not their recipes as well?  Literary Feast includes the culinary delights of nearly one-hundred authors, benefiting the King County Library System Foundation.

I have a favorite recipe from the book.  I actually made it tonight, and I will reveal it in a moment.  Don’t peak.

The South Beach Diet Supercharged author — Dr Arthur Agatston opens the book with a divine sounding recipe Sun-Dried Tomato and Feta-Stuffed Chicken Breasts. It sounds great, and I will make it someday.  But, this isn’t the one.

Oooh, Kelley Armstrong has my favorite treat — which, because of the diabetes I cannot eat.  French Toast.  Actually, Stuffed French Toast.  She writes Otherworld, a paranormal suspense series.  Maybe next lifetime, I’ll try her recipe

David Baldacci — I’ve interviewed him about several of his books, and I can’t wait to try his Eggplant Parmigiana.  When I first got married, I used to make a recipe of the same name, but this one is inspiring, in part, because it originated with his Italian grandmother, and mine was just out of a Betty Crocker cookbook.

The lovely Elizabeth Berg – I’ve interviewed her in two different radio stations, a hotel room, and an airport lounge.  Her writing draws characters of multiple nuances, draws me in, makes her characters live in my mind days after I close the book.  Her Chocolate Mint Brownies recipe – oh good choice – um, but it has prunes in it? She swears they’re really good.

John J Nance, Katherine Neville, John Saul, Jennie Shortridge, Brad Meltzer — I’ve interviewed each multiple times.  Brad! That’s my mother’s Italian Chicken recipe! Thanks for the reminder.  No, not my favorite yet.

Ah-ha, here it is.  My favorite, by my friend and writing Workshop pal, Chelsea Cain.  She writes killer books.  Really.  Gorgeous female serial killer.  Flawed and appealing cop.  Pink or blue or purple-haired girl reporter.  Blend these ingredients for a best-selling series.

But now for her recipe — yes, my favorite.

Pizza a la Chelsea Cain

1 healthy cup laziness

The telephone number of your local fine pizza establishment

Approximately $25, with tip

salt and pepper (to taste)

I switch up some of the ingredients:  I fish out a business card for Pizzacato on my way home from anchoring news at KPAM 860, the radio station, where I’ve been broadcasting the forecast, that a snowstorm is rolling in at seven o’clock.  It is 6:38pm.  That’s not lazy, just practical. The pomodoro pizza and the arugula pear salad come to $28, not $25.  But, good, I’ll have plenty of leftovers.  No salt and pepper, and I peel off the onions – I forgot to say “hold.”  Yum, Chelsea — thanks for the great recipe!

Delicious pizza.  No storm. No snow.  No ice. Not even a raindrop.
